well like other have posted they [[congo]] are usually between 800 into the thousands...the ones at the pet store near me they're $950 BUT!
in Lampassas Texas there is this animal auction, and i'm sure there must be others elsewhere, where you could find them at all different prices. i got my african grey congo for $650. and i've heard of ones going for even cheaper. thing is though, you don't usually get a record of any sort about its past. mine came dna sexed female and was claimed to be a "proven breeder" (haven't tested that or anything) as well as about 10 years old. what i didn't know and found out later was that she was a wild caught bird. i don't like the idea of taking something from its natural habitat, if it was raised in captivity though then it would be okay. also, since she was wild caught, that means she must be at least 23 or so years old considering it became illegal to import african greys into the US in the '80s. it may be sad but i am glad i got Dutchess [my parrot]] b/c if i had gotten one from somewhere else it wouldn't be my Dutchess.
good luck on trying to find out what you want to know, hope i helped in some way.
and you never know what you may learn if you just ask around and do some research.

Love the African Grey. Met one back in the late 80's early 90's that was quite a character. He knew different calls like, dog bark, cat's meow, horses ney. He would sing along with a song on the stereo and keep singing after the song was over. If you laughed at him and he liked your laugh he would copy your laugh. He would do emergency sirens also. He was an incredible bird. Back then I think I priced them at about $800, so today they have got to be up to $1200 or $1500.

Average cost of an African Grey is $1,000 - $1,500, because with plenty of early stimulation, most African Greys will start speaking after one year of age. Even if your African Grey only maintains a handful of words in her vocabulary, it is certain you will share an entertaining and interactive life with one of these very special members of the parrot family!!! GOOD LUCK!

i imagine its fairly prevalent,I definitely have an african gray,he's fairly in touch in imitating Noises and such than definitely putting forward something, yet even if it really is plucking its feathers or below pressure then you definitely could evaluate taking it to a vet.
