I just went to my friends wedding. She had Walmart do her cake. It was beautiful and the best tasting wedding cake I ever had. She had it to feed 70 people and it cost her $120. Seriously check it out. The only thing I will tell you is they do not deliver but that cake was packed so well it was incredible. Took just a few minutes to set it up and they gave very good directions on how to set it up. Very clear!!! Remember when you are spending $ on a cake...it is going to be eaten. Not something you can keep. Spend the money on your honeymoon.

It depends on the size of the cake. And how many people that you've invited to the wedding. Most cakes have atleast three layers and can feed any where from 80 people to 225 people. It all depends on what you purchase. Find a cake that you like alot and see if your local baker can make it. Some cakes also price depend on what you use as the cake and the filling. Some cakes are just plane and then there are the ones that have fillings. Go to a local baker and price the cakes that you are looking for, sometimes they can do a tasting with you so that you can order your cake right away.

A three tiered cake that will feed 100 people, delivered and set up the day of the wedding for $100.
The same woman made my nephew's wedding cake and it was delicious and beautiful!
My suggestion is to ask around, this lady works in the bakery at a major grocery store chain, but also does them on the side too for cheaper. You may can find the same in your area.
Good luck for a wonderful wedding and delicious cake!!

Most wedding cakes are priced by the slice - anywhere from $3.25 to $5 per slice is a good rule of thumb. Check out this article all about wedding cakes, how to select a baker, ideas and prices: http://www.topweddingsites.com/newsletter.htm
With regard to the cardboad "show" cake - these usually don;t save all that much becuse you stil have to pay to have the baker design the fake cake.

I forgot how much mine was, it was many years ago. But my cake baker can go as low as $ 100 for probably 50 - 60 people. It depends on what design and ingredients sometimes. I know someone who makes her own cake, if you have someone to help it might not be a bad idea.
Try to find the recipes online. if you are located in canada you can visit http://www.wilton.com they have really good pictures to give you ideas if you want a cake baker make the cake for you or free recipes for you to make your own. G'luck!

We are actually doing a "show cake"..one that will be made out of cardboard with all the decorations on it and then will be serving sheet cakes from the kitchen.....we will be having a variety of flavors such as red velvet, cookies and creme, white chocolate and swirl....We are saving about 200.00 by doing this since we are feeding between 300 and 400 people...it will be costing us 80.00 for the "show cake" and 200.00 for the sheet cakes!

I paid $4 pp for a three tiered cake which feeds 75 people. Then $1.50 pp for a sheet cake.
Ask any bakery and they can tell you what it costs per person (pp) and then they can also tell you how much each tier/sheet will feed.

we paid $400 to feed 150 people, but it had multiple tiers, multiple layered cake with bridges and the like, it was gorgeous AND delicious; so it just all depends on what you want in a cake.....
