My sons friend aged 25 is suffering from OCB - has had hypnotherapy but did not help : he is not suffering from depression right now - but cannot break this cycle - has anyone been through this and can offer some advice or solutions.? He is a great lad - but now cannot look in a mirror without scratching and it is affecting his life.. If anyone has been in this situation and can offer some constructive advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I cannot offer a reasonable answer as I have not suffered from this, and I have never known somebody who has, so all I can offer is my comfort that hopefully he will one day he will look in a mirror without scratching himself. I'm sorry to hear what he has to go through.

The main thing for him to work out is- What am I getting out of this behaviour?

Then work on finding other ways to satisfy the need.

Example-

If its to punish himself he could hold ice or have an elastic band round his wrist to ping.

If its habit.. he could try keeping himself and his hands busy during the times he would feel the urge to scratch.

If its very impulsive- he could try leaving doing it for a few seconds and slowly build up..

But really- he needs to see a doc to chat about some of these issues.. Dr will know how to help best or refer him to a specialist.. there's medication for OCD now which could ease the symptoms and there's a wealth of more practical things that could help him cope in the long term.

it really is a soreness. I definitely have similar hassle with my 4 month old. it really is a case of reducing nails as a lot as accessible... perchance attempt filing them right down to as reducing on my own it really is no longer accessible to get rid of all sharp bits. you are able to also attempt lengthy socks up his hands with lengthy sleeves extreme to shop them there?! it truly is what a buddy did to end her son scratching eczema. She extensively utilized masking tape to get them in position yet in person-friendly words because he'd frantically attempt to yank them off. should be powerful in spite of if only for evening time. it really is terrible seeing little scratches on their face... even if on a tremendous be conscious they heal speedy and do not seem to damage!

i have obsessive compulsive disorder and i have scars on my legs where one of the things i have done was to scratch lines into my body the thing that helped me stop doing this particular form of obsessiveness (i have many different ones) was the psychiatrist said to me
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DONT DO IT this helped me by putting into perspective the thing that i thought would happen by saying WHAT IS THE LIKELY HOOD OF THAT HAPPENING THEN and gradually by talking to my husband about it and obviously to my psychiatrist it seemed to lessen
i hope you dont mind the capital letters i am not shouting at you i just wanted you to see what helped work for me

best wishes for the future
