General Douglas MacArthur said, "I shall return."
and he did...to Ormoc Bay, on the Island of Leyte. (east of Cebu)
He has a statue there, and is revered as a savior, to this day. His farewell address before the Congress is among the most inspiring orations in the annals of modern history.
He is the exact opposite of today's leaders, in every way.

That would be General Douglas MacArthur. Also known as Dugout Doug by his troops in Corrigidor. He said,"I shall return." He should have added when its safe.

It was indeed Gen. Douglas MacArthur and he actually said "I SHALL return." Semantics, I know, but if you are going to quote for a report, it needs to be exceptionally accurate.
