2 meals a day, the bag of food will give you an idea how much to feed, and the amount varies depending on the quality of the food you buy, higher qualities of food have no fillers and less grains so more highly digestible and therefore less is require, the lower the quality of food the more fillers it will have for example some foods contain peanuts shell and beet pulp added, these ingredients have no nutitional value, they are added just as a cheap fiber source so a dog need to eat more to meet it's nutritional needs, same thing if the protein is mostly being source from corn, corn is not very digestible to dog so they need to eat more than if the protein was mostly being sourced from meat to get the nutrients they need. Dogs also have different metabolisms and activity levels so the recommend feeding amount on the bag is a guide only and may need to be adjusted based on whether the dog is gaining or losing weight

I would say 3/4 cup per day. Divide it up and make sure if it's a puppy that you wet it a little bit so it goes down easier. Give half in the morning and half at night. Also some brands are different than others. Look on the side of the bag and it should specify how much per pound to feed the dog/puppy.

My dog weighs six pounds as well. They should eat about a 1/2 cup a day. I don't have to monitor mine though. He self feeds very well and does not over eat. So I just leave food in his dish. At the size of a 6lb dog you have to be careful they don't gain weight. 1lb on them is like 10lbs on us! So if they all the food you can let them self feed.

It depends upon your dog breed. You can find a feeding chart on a good puppy dog food like pedigree. Follow that.
