Okay, for those who believe the Biblical account that God created the world and life and all (of which I am one) do you believe that he only created for six days (whatever is meant by days...24 hour periods...undisclosed periods of time...millions of years...etc) and then sat back to enjoy the show? If so, what was the point of noting the seventh day as resting? Couldn't it be that he created for six days, rested the seventh, then resumed creation on days 8-13, resting again on day 14, etc? If you think this is possible, speculate on what he was creating during the second week of creation. If you do not think this is possible, please explain the significance of God resting on the 7th day, and why we are not in a continual state of "Seventh Day-ism".

For one, 2 Peter 3:8 states this: "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day."

So, it's not a literal week like we think of a week today.

We are currently still in day 7. Nowhere does the Bible state that day 7 has come and gone.

Hope this helped.

The Bible says that we are a new creation in Christ when he saves us. God is no longer creating, but He is re-creating all the time. This re-creation will have its ultimate culmination after the return of Christ, when He establishes the new heavens and the new earth. The seventh-day rest is actually pointing toward that final fulfillment of God's purposes in the world, when all believers will rest eternally with Him after everything has been re-created.

We are currently still in day 7.

Read Hebrews 3:12 through 4:11.

From Hebrews 4:9 - "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." (KJV)

You have to read the surrounding verses to understand this one.

ADDED: I also find it interesting that God lumped all the creative days (plural) into one single day. We read in Genesis 2:4 - "These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens."

I used to be a seventh day adventist, before I bagan to study and saw things that couldnt be proved Biblically. much supposition. Tho they do have much truth. not wrong about everything. But, yes I believe in the Biblical 7 days of creation, as God says it. What He says settles us for any true Christian. We are to love God, believe Him, and obey Him.
I doubted that God needed to rest on the 7th day. He is all. But, it is to remind us to rest one day a week. resting in Him and getting away from all the stress and nonsense of the world, and dedicated a day just to Him. Every day is for Him, but one day is to be set apart. Many will say its still the seventh day as God never changes. They are right, He does not ever change, not even a little. But, if one really reads and studies scripture, the old covenant was set to be temorary, from the very beginning. God knew what ppl would do with it, began to make legalistic laws, focusin on the rules instead of the love of God. I have seen people keeping the sabbath perfectly, and yet showing no love of God. The same kind that dindt think Jesus should heal on the seven day sabbath . they missed the point. God knew ppl would do this and he expalins how it is temporary.. so , when things seemed to have changed, they really didnt. They are as God designed them to begin with, but allowed us to see what happens when we focus on rules and laws and not on God. Ppl were so busy living the law, that they didnt evenknow Jesus was the real messiah, but many are coming into the fold today, of knowing Jesus is the messiah. Messianic jews. I am a pentacostal, a full gospel Christian. I believe in all of the old testmanet and new testament, and that it all fits together like a giant jigsaw puzzzle, showing us the plan of God. ITs beautiful. I believe we must love God enough to obey Him. THe gift of salvation is free, but to keep that gift, it requires obedience. d evil tries every day to deceive us, and unless we are in Gods full protection, by abiding in Him, loving Him, obeying Him, we will be deceived. He says even the very elect may be deceived in these last days. Look at many of the pastors today that always stood firm for truth, and now its anything goes. Grace does not cover deliberate sin. Grace JESUS saves us. BUt, obedience keeps us victorious Christians. and yes, we need a day of rest in God, not just in not doing anything, but a day spent in truly reconnencting with God and knowing He is our passion, our life. Jesus saves. Glad to know you do believe> Be ready when He comes, cuz He says its soon.

I believe he rested to have it written in the bible that even God wants a day to rejoice. He wants us to rest and rejoice.
All work and no play etc... he knew we would need one full day of rest and rejoice, to feel good and renew ourselves for the next week. We get together with like-minded Christian folk and have an awesome time celebrating our faith and it's wonderful. I think they have an awesome rejoice up in heaven and want us to try as best we can to take that time out.

The 7th day was supposed to be the day of rest. You work all week and need a chance to rest and recharge. We are supposed to acknowledge this day of rest and do the same thing ourselves to show respect and recharge.

I see nothing in Genesis 1 that would make a day not a 24 hour period. It had morning and night, and whenever those words are accompanied with day, it means a literal 24-hour period.
