I am thirty-five years old with no children. I have been in a few good relationships but have been single now for about six years.

Within those six years, I have finished school, have a really nice career, traveled and brought my first house. After six years, I am finally experiencing my first real relationship with really nice man who I have great chemistry with. He likes to spend almost every minute of the day with me and at times I feel smothered.

I think being single and independent has played a huge part in what I am feeling. What do I do? How do I talk to him like a mature adult without killing the relationship?

Tell him this is very different from your usual habits. There's nothing wrong with discussing YOUR feelings. And try to understand his feelings; which aspects of being together all the time are the most important to him.

Also, think about why you're smothered. Does he REALLY get in the way of you doing what you want, when you want? If so, does he mean to?

A good compromise can be to be together without stepping on each other's toes.
