There are several medications which provide good relief from anxiety attacks. They are often prescribed by family MDs, although psychiatrists have the most knowledge and expertise with these medications.

To gain the maximum relief from anxiety attacks you should really see a psychotherapist who has had experience treating these problems--a therapist who uses an approach called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy ("CBT") is your very best bet. Such a therapist can help you fully understand what's bringing about your anxiety attacks and will also help you formulate and implement ways to effectively deal with them.

But before seeing a therapist, or a physician for medication, you may want to read about anxiety attacks and try to work things out on your own. There are some excellent books available--I would particularly recommend one called "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook," by Edmund Bourne (available through amazon.com for $12.57).
