One of the female soldiers interviewed said that the guys think a woman in the military is either "a b*tch, a who', or a dike". The women told stories about having to protect themselves against sexual abuse from their male counterparts. Does this mean women shouldn't be soldiers? Why can't men control themselves?

Its not that serious. When I was in the army, it was so sensitive that you had to watch what you even said around females. I was in an infantry unit so obviously we could not have women in my unit, but there is a huge backlash against females in the army because the physical training standards are lowered so that they can pass the pt test. Men see this as not equal since women should be able to perform the same since they want to be soldiers. However, its not like men go around attacking female counterparts. It happens just like in the civilian world but its not out of hand.

As in any profession, there will be instances where females will be abused by males. It's unfortunate, but a fact of life. It doesn't make it excusable.

In my 17 years in the military, most of them being either a senior non-commissioned officer or now an officer, I have not had an incident where a female Soldier was assaulted by a male Soldier. I have known of incidents (usually 2nd hand) where a male in a position of power has used "Quid Pro Quo" to take advantage of a female, but there are provisions in regulation in place to deal with that swifly, if the female makes the decision to report it.

1. It's a very few men that do that.

2. They train ALL soldiers how to take care of themselves. You *should* be able to fend off an attack.

I hope you aren't getting all of your news from NPR. Why would you think that they need to protect themselves form the male soldiers? I think you need a new source for your news, and maybe a new store to buy your kool-aid....

The same way civilian women protect themselves from civilian men. Awareness, education.
