Atheists, are you ever embarrassed by anything another atheist says?

I'm sure I've embarrassed some in the occasions where I get so frustrated by something I see as so obvious yet people are wholly blind to it, that I'm sure I embarrass some. People who ignore facts (such as prison statistics) for instance can incur a sort of belligerent behavior.

Overall I'm not terribly embarrassed by most things an atheist says. There are certainly things I don't agree with, and naturally there are whole areas of human knowledge they can be lacking, but nothing absolutely ridiculous. Even the parody questions are amusing and not so much embarrassing.

The difference though is that an atheist can acknowledge the areas they're lacking in and be willing to learn about them. You won't see an atheist arguing against quantum theory without understanding it, yet you will see christians arguing against evolution without understanding it.

No not really because I don't feel like me and the idiots who Post stupid stuff have anything in common- ya know what I mean- like obviously if someone of your faith is saying something you're embarrassed by do you even think that they understand your faith in the same way you do? And I think it's even easier to dissociate myself with other atheist because what we have in common is not a belief but a lack thereof so out ideas on everything could be completely different.

Even though I am an atheist, I've never considered myself a part of an atheist "community," but on occasion I've had to count to ten upon hearing some absurdity about religion from an atheist
The ones that get my goat are, in order:
"Religious people are stupid!"
"All wars are caused by religion!"
"All religions are the same!"

yea it is kinda embarrassing because to some people- the person who spoke may be representing the view points of atheist (like if i were to say something that was crazy to everyone, then people would have the opinion that all people who are atheist are that way)... but that goes for everyone not just atheist!

so think before we speak, and act :)

Funny, as soon as you said embarassed I thought of George Costanza from the Seinfeld show. Sometimes it's just other humans that embarass me. I think we all can find people of embarassingly different perspectives in every group. I know many Christians who say the exact same thing you are saying.

Eh, we're all individuals who only happen to have non belief in common...and idiots can come in all forms. We're not like a unified group like religion is, when people all claim a certain title and are supposed to conform to a certain way, so I don't take it too personally if someone is an idiot and makes themselves look dumb. If someone takes that as a view of all of us, well they are just as simpleminded then.

Yes, sometimes the insensitivity and intolerance of my fellow nontheists irritates and depresses me terribly. I'm not always at my best, either, so I'm sure things I've written or said have embarrassed others as well. I think sometimes we just forget ourselves or get carried away, and I'm really trying to rise above my baser instincts.

I personally don't care what other atheists say. I know what I believe and I assume their beliefs match up with mine on some level.
