I prefer to use the term "undocumented person". Everyone says that they come here and take our resource and take advantage of system but have you ever thought that these people pay taxes wether it is property taxes or sales tax even if they do steal SS they still have to pay taxes. Another point I want to bring up is that we take advantage of these countries too. We send big corporate industries to Mexico, India, Phillippines and pay them a few dollars a week but no one seems to notice that because it is to our convience because if they were to get paid what we consider normal pay then we would have to pay much more for our things like TVs, cars and so on. If these large corporations would pay more money many people would rather stay in their own country than come to a country where they do not speak the language, have no family etc. The fee to apply to come to the U.S. is going from 300 to 600 dollars, I think this will encourage more "illegal" immigration because it is going to be harder to pay that amount, it will not deter people from coming.

Probably!! Even if there are fewer in Alaska or Hawaii their federal taxes are being used to give illegals health care. Perhaps a few Alaskan or Hawaiians have had their social security numbers have been stolen and used by illegals. Immigration is a serious problem!! The borders need to be closed!!

In the 1980's, the U.S. was already declining in average education and, hence, unable to compete with Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Germany and other nations whose expeditures and efficiencies in education were paying off.
We began to beef up our standards, then. But as luck would have it, the Supreme Court had other plans. In the case of Plyler vs Texas, the court held that schools and other public entities could NOT deny equal services to a child "simply" because that child was illegal or born of parents who were knowingly residing in violation of immigration laws.
Can you say, "Open the Flood Gates?"
Today, thanks to the Extreme Court, we're in a techno-abilities freefall against the international market.
The highest drop-out rate is among illegals and their children, particularly Latino persons.
If the borders were closed today and volunteer contributions (not federal robinhooding) started to flow south to improve their status, we could catch up and they could hold their own.
As it is, they're down so they come here without changing or even realizing they need to (that is: to adjust to a highly technical global job market).
So, by sheer numbers, they're bringing us down to their level. Some say they're just making their life a little better. True. But the U.S. has always been a place for people who want to be among the best. And that requires first being humble enough to accept who's better at what and why.
Few people realize that nano-technology will soon be grooming our lawns, picking our fruit & vegetables, assembling house-sections in factories (for snap-together, on-site construction) and just about everything else. How many laborers does it take to paint every new Japanese car that comes off the assemby line? Zero!!
See the future?

Don't know about Alaska...but having lived in Hawaii...I can say no...there doesn't seem to be a problem. In fact all the reports that I have read suggest that Hawaii is the state with the least illegal immigration.
I guess they just can't swim that far.

Every person in the U.S. is affected by illegal aliens. To the extent that they utilize public resources, commit identity theft, use false Social Security numbers, etc., everyone is affected, regardless of whether that particular state has a large number of illegals in it or not.
BTW, there is no such thing as an "illegal immigrant." Immigrant is a term for people who come here legally; it has legal status and confers certain (limited) rights. People who are here illegally are technically "aliens," even though some people make an end run around the issue by calling them "immigrants" in an attempt to preemptively change their status.
Postscript: Just reading some of the posts, I realized I forgot to make an important distinction. When I said "immigrant" is a term comferring a certain legal status, I meant as the term has been construed by the legislative branch and the courts -- not the dictionary. :-)

California, Arizona and Texas have it the worst. I don't think they would have enough money to survive in Hawaii and I think it's too cold in Alaska for them!
