I was evicted from my apartment in August and I owed the landlord some back rent she is telling everyone I know that she is going to take my taxes but we have never been to court over the amount I owe her can she do that legally?

No, the landlord would have to take you to court and settle this. The landlord doesn't have the right to take back the taxes, I think the landlord is just trying to scare you..

Why would a landlord want to get your backed taxes? His job is to collect unpaid rent , right? so why the tax? I don't get it..

no cause you have to have a hear first. Plus the judge will tell her what is gets and tell you what you owe
