I believe the reason to be because the democratic party is haven to the counter culture.
Basically, most teens are still in a rebelious stage, so they like disagreeing with a lot of stuff, especially authority. That is why so many people drink and smoke weed in College.
I go to College and am one of the few conservative (though I am more or less neutral) people.
I absolutely support the war, because I am in the ROTC program at my school, so if I stick with it, I will be an officer in 3 years.

Colleges are typically left leaning to begin with.

College students don't have time to truly be informed on current events (they better be studying). They miss facts and trends this way...an understandably misinformed enthusiasm. Beer doesn't help either.

Younger people tend to be more emotionally charged. Its a form of immaturity. Witness some of the comments and posters here.

Younger persons don't follow through with their reasoning, they go one step (to support their cause du jour) and no farther. In time, they will (another manifestation of immaturity).

This obviously doesn't include all colleges or college students. Nor is it insulting, they will grow out of it.

I go to college. Not really near any bases though. I know we have some in our area though. But none near my school. But I mean I see people against the war, and some for it. But mostly everyone I see supports our troops at the college I go to. I support our troops, and I am joining after college, if I can make it. Semper paratus.

I live in a college town. I don't "support our troops". I think I can explain why.... If you are dumb enough to sign your life over to our government, then enjoy the ride. This isn't China. You aren't obligated to sign up. This isn't the 50's where the only job available for stupid people is the military. There are a million options for people without options. It's not that I dislike the people in the military. I just don't have any simpathy for them.

I have some friends in the service that come to town every once and a while. We all have a good laugh at their expense. "So, you caught any good shrapnel lately? Humped any hot Iraqy hookers?" Stuff like that. I wish them the best, but come'on. They signed up.

There has been a history of Universal disdain of the military from the big colleges, they just don't mix. Maybe the Universities think they are superior and vice versa.

because they fall into the screwed up society that exists nowadays. they would prefer to have mommy and daddy pay for their drinking and sex oh i mean schooling, and then they would prefer to continue that trend and have the american people support them with taxes and give them stuff instead of earning it like you should. this is the problem in the us now, not many are willing to do anything except hold out their hands.

Personally I think there are two reasons:

1. They fear the draft
2. The colleges are overrun with left wing staff

Have you ever been to college? Universities are full of anti-military/anti-U.S./anti-capitalist/anti-white male/self-indulged college professors. It doesn't surprise me they put out a bunch of closed-minded Liberal robots.
