today at lunch I was talking with my boyfriend and then he got into the subject that his friend smoked. This skocked me because we are only 13. This kid has many problems and I don't want it to get any worse for him. But I can't tell an adult because my BF told me not to tell anyone or his friend would get in trouble. I have no idea what to do. I don't want to cause any problems, but...

there's nothing you can do, except tell on him and cause drama with his family and between your bf and his friend. just leave it alone. smoking is a dumb decision, but the guy has to live his own life. (sorry if this isnt wht you want to hear)

That's not good... I know where you're coming from. I come from a town where 8-9 year-olds smoke. (The Truth, I tell no lies) There's not much I can say to help you. I'd go with what your boyfriend says and not tell anyone. You don't want to make the situation worse than it already is. The right thing to do is to inform someone that can help him. It doesn't have to be an adult. That's all I can offer now. I wish your friend the best of luck, and I hope he can get over his problem before it's too late.

Tell your friend to quit smoking, he is at the perfect age to start and not be able to quit, so the sooner the better. I have smoked for 35yrs, I started at age 13, and I have wanted to quit for many, many years. It is extremely difficult to quit this addiction, my mom was dianosed with lung cancer, she STILL smokes, as I do. I have tried a few times, I am trying again now. Tell your friend to do the math on how much his cigarettes cost, I bet he could purchase a car when he is sixteen if he puts away the money spent on a pack of cigarettes every day, doing the math is quite eye opening. Also, tell him that girls don't like kissing someone that smells like an ashtray, maybe that will change his ways. Good luck, it is very kind of you to care for your friend, thank you.

teenagers are known for doing stupid things like smoking. More often than not it is because they wish to "fit in" with their peer group. not to mention they don't really believe smoking can harm them, they tend to think they are immortal. At thirteen, he is not purchasing those things legally, someone is breaking the law by giving them to him, or he is breaking the law by stealing them, in other words, he SHOULD get in trouble, as should the person giving him the cigarettes. I'd think twice about a boyfriend who tries to tell you what to do, especially if what he tells you is basically wrong...do you really want someone like that in your life? At thirteen you are way too young to even consider committing yourself to one guy, you'll be meeting many more, and many that are far better than this one. Nice guys who won't try to tell you to do what you know in your heart is wrong. Do what you know is right.

Kids are going to do what they want to do. Dont worry about it. Its not for you to be mommy. He will get caught sooner or later and he will face the repercusions. It is possible for you to make an anomymous phone call to the kids parents or leave a note with a teacher. No one will know.

your 13 and your worried about it? kiddo, im 16, i dont live in any particularly bad neighborhood but i know kids who have smoked pot since they were 7, my own mother even admits that shes been smoking ciggarettes when she was 10. yeah its bad for you, dont do it, and ifits pot or heroine or some stuff like that, tell before the little idiot kills himself, but if its ciggarettes, then hes got years to learn from his mistake and since its not illeagal (even though i personally think it should be) his parents can only stop him from buying the stuff, legally, they cant stop him from smoking it if that is what he wants. and when you get into highschool the number of kids doing drugs and the kind of drugs they do, is going to like mulitiply by a huge load, im not kidding. so im sorry, you cant be responsible for their actions. all you can do is keep clean, stay away from it, and let them fall. its hard, and it sucks, but its what you have to do for yourself. im sorry i cant give you better advice then taht.

It's really weird hearing someone worry about smoking at a young age for me. I'm from a very small town and nearly everyone above the age of eight smokes. It's crazy. I'm happy to say that I'm not one of them. My opinion is to just leave it alone, he makes his own decisions...but I bet if he knew what he was doing to himself, he'd definatley quit. So try to tell him the facts, it'll gross him out/worry him beyond belief.

That's too bad, I was 13 when I started smoking and 20 years later,... I just quit. 6 weeks ago.. here is what 20 years of smoking will do....

You will spend lots of money.
You will smell bad..
You won't be able to breathe

Stop!!! HELP YOUR FRIEND>>> DO NOT LET HIM CONTINUE! I feel so bad... it reminds me of when I was 13, and I know you wont listen anyway..too bad...

I hate to say this, but this is one thing you need to stay out of. It doesn't concern you, and if he doesn't quit on his own he will just learn the hard way. It's unfortunate, but it happens to a lot of people.
