my husband was diagnosed with it today and was given some tablets to help his vomiting and told to let it take its course but to rest and drink plenty of fluids. he has had this for just under a week now and i was just wondering how long it normally lasts for? and does anyone know how contageous this is?

It's pretty contagious. My dad had it a few years ago and I caught it quickly from him - I felt AWFUL, and had it for a couple of weeks from what I remember. It's certainly something I wouldn't want to get again... Hope your husband feels better soon...

Many bugs can cause gastric flu. Very contagious no matter which one. Norovirus germs can live on hard surfaces for 3 days. Doorknobs, sink handles, countertops, remote, etc. Wash your hands frequently. Spray with lysol, or wipe stuff with solution of 1 part bleach, 9 parts water. Ground him to one room. If he has had it for a week, you're probably already have it. Good luck!! If hubby can't keep pills down, call doctor for suppositories--phenergan ones work good.

hi my husband has add the same thing it lasted well over a week, towards the end it kept comeing and going, so i would tell him to make sure he`s near a wc always or carry a large bucket and plenty of toilet roll cheers

i had this for over 3 weeks on and off just 1 week i kept throwing up and then the next week after i felt fine from throwing up i started going to the toilet for the opisite i am glad i have got rid of it i hated every minute of it

it depends on the condition that your husbands health is in general, I work in a hospital and a lot of people had it some people had it for 5 days and some had it for 2 weeks please keep him hydrated and let him rest as much as possible a lot of people had to have an IV to stay hydrated
