He is from the SPCA so I have no idea his background. He's long haired solid black with golden eyes. He isn't fat but a big cat. He's 20 pounds of muscle mass (at his last check up the vet measured his back leg at 19 inches - it was off the weight/height chart). He's my sweetie and such a goof. I was just wondering what breed he was out of curiosity.

Here is a link to a picture of him

Thank you! He's does have a nice coat. So soft. I feed him Nutro hairball formula and I think that might be part of it.

I can definitly see a resemblence to the main coon and the rag doll cats. He has the personality of a rag doll seeing as he meets me at the door, plays fetch, follows me around, sleeps curled up nest to me...

His body looks more like the maincoon, but his ears definitly don't. I guess he's just my SPCA Special cat, and I love him all the same.

I can't really tell. I think that he could be:
-Turkish van cat
-Siberian cat
-ragdoll cat
-norwegian forest cat.
again, I don't really know what it's breed is. If you want more info, go to the yahoo mainpage, and in the search engine, type in "breeds of cats", then click search. Then click on the site that says (CFA breeds-----------cat breeds and colors) it should be the first choice on the page.

Saw the picture. You can eliminate the Turkish-Van (they are white with golden-brown spots) and the Maine-Coon. We have/had both breeds. Most vets have charts with pictures of the various breeds. Otherwise if there is a cat club in the area, check with them. Actually, it doesn't matter because you have a fantastic kitty there, what a beauty! Thank you for the rescue. We've done that many times and the love has come around.

How can you tell what "breed" you are? People and animals come with so many mixtures of genes from the past that you can't discern what's what. You may look like your aunt Sue, grandmother, grandfather - whatever. You are just a special human and your cat is a special cat.

He is a domestic cat. No real breed per say just a mixed breed kitty that you love and saved. Thank you. Forgot to add he looks like he *might* have some Main coon in there somewhere and from his weight and size I would say it is possiable...still mixed but a Main coon Mix.

aww your cat is so adorable! but if you have time if none of the answers are right (somehow) then all you have to do if you have time you can just look in a cat book and they show picture of cats and they might tell you what kind of cat your cat is because I'm not really sure what kind of breed that is I'm not good with cats that much but I still have a good cat and if you adopted it from the animal shelter then look for the papers the person gave you to keep your cat it might say I'm not really sure because I've never checked before sorry and good luck!!

He could be a British Longhair, but I'm not sure. You may find it yourself, if use the link bellow. On the other hand (after I followed the link) I am confused about my own cat's breed... Before that, I thought my cat was a birman breed. Well, it seems she isn't!
At the end, everything that does matter, is that he is a beautiful cat. I'm sure you love him, isn't it?

What a cutie!
I'd say with certainty that he's got a good deal of Maine Coon in him; few cats can equal their large size.

he is beautiful, could be mainecoon or norwegian forest cat cross with any other type of cat. he really is just a general moggie like my current big boy who is four foot from tip of nose to tip of his tail and about the same height as yours with lovely golden eyes and chocolate black. well done for rescuing him so just love him for what he is.

Not sure I would guess a domestic longhair but whatever he is he sure is a handsome boy. He has a lovely coat.

If he's a shelter cat, he's probably a mixed breed. Who cares though? He's adorable!
