I had a pain earlier in my tooth when I was eating dessert at dinner time and I went to look at it in the mirror. I don't really look at my teeth much so I don't know how long it's been like this, but on practically ALL of my back teeth it kind of looks like after you've eaten chocolate when it gets stuck in the grooves?? And the one that was hurting earlier looks a bit worse than the others, the brownish area is kind of spread out of the grooves of the tooth onto the surface.
I haven't been to the dentist in a few years which is bad, I know, but I've never had any cavities before and I brush my teeth every day. Does it sound like I have cavities now? I guess the one that hurts definitely is, but what about the others that don't hurt, but look like they have chocolate stuck in them?
I'm really worried cos I've never had any fillings or anything before, does it hurt? And what do they do? And I've heard it's hard to get an NHS dentist, but can't afford to go private!!

It's difficult to tell the difference sometimes between stains on your teeth and small cavities. The pits and grooves on your teeth get stained quite easily, so you may not have cavities, but at the same time in a lot of cases the pit and fissure staining goes on to become decay, so you really need to see your dentist for a proper diagnosis. They'll d some x-rays to check whether there is any decay visible, and they will use that little sharp pick thing to probe the dark areas on your teeth - if the probe "sticks" or if the surface of the tooth feels soft to probe, then it's due to decay and you'll need fillings.
The tooth you're having pain from, it sounds like it definitely has a cavity in it, especially going from what you've described about how it looks. Basically, when you get a filling you get an injection in the gum next to the bad tooth, which stings for a few seconds, but after that it goes numb and you shouldn't be able to feel anything. Then the dentist will drill out the decayed area, it sounds horrible and the taste and smell are't great, but it doesn't hurt. Then he'll fill the drilled out area either with white filling material or amalgam (silver) filling material, get you to bite down a few times on a bit of paper to check that your bite is ok, and that's it! It only takes about 15 minutes or so for each filling.
So get to a dentist, because if you DO have cavities, it's much quicker and easier to get them filled now before they get bigger and start to hurt - trust me! And don't worry, it's really not that bad at all getting fillings. Good luck!

I have dark spots between my two back bottom molars on each side. They don't hurt and are not soft. My dentist took x-rays and they are not cavities, he said most likely they are stains. A toothbrush can't reach between your teeth and I don't floss between my molars. My molars shifted slightly and exposed the edge of the stains.
Dark spots on your teeth that are soft and cause pain are usually cavities.
Some schools that train students to be Dental Hygienists offer free (or very cheap) cleaning services. Baker College is a school in my area that offers this. If you can't afford to go to the dentist on a regular basis I would recommend you brush and floss regularly and supplement your brushing with a fluoride rinse like Phos-Flur which you can get at most pharmacies.

It does sound like cavities. You need to see a dentist. To fill a cavity they first give you a shot to numb you, then they drill out the decay, last, they fill it with amalgam (filling) No, it does not hurt. The shot does not hurt if they go slow.

it sounds like cavities, but it could be a combination of things like coffee/tea, nicotine stains etc. i strongly urge you to get to a dentist. the one that hurts could be abcessed.
you may need to be on some antibiotics if that's the case, especially if you are a diabetic. infections like this can be potentially dangerous. don't let that happen. tell your dentist about your fears and let him or her help you through. good luck.

Pray to God continuously even as attempting, as God facilitates those who help themselves somewhat than those who're lazy. Lord Krisna suggested in Bhagavad Gita, we could finished our works and resign the fruit of our action. So we could shop attempting and locate excitement in doing our artwork, even if we get the wanted effect. we could continuously no longer lose wish. Do your magnificent and go away something to God,it is going to all come proper some day or evening.

you may need to go to a dentist. Fillings are not that bad, I had one, they use a numbing agent in my jaw a I "slighty" felt it.
