i asked him if he would ever have to fight in a war and he said "not the type that you are thinking about" what does he mean.. does he mean that he wouldnt have to with all the guns and stuff im confused and also do 15 years have to,, how does that work?!!?? and do kids learn how to work guns and stuff like that in school?? any info or sites would be great!!

also do you think that was ok to ask him,, when i asked if he would ever have to fight in a war,, it was fine right ?/ cause i would think that he would maybe at some point..

His remark is kind of an odd answer… I admit that I don't fully understand it.

In Israel, we have a compulsory enlistment at the age of 18, or right after high school.
There are two types of regular military service (not reserve duty): Kravi (combat unit) and Orpi (rear unit). Most of the army is made of rear units and soldiers, so most chances are that he won't have to actually fight, especially if he doesn't prove motivation to do so.
Both types of soldiers get at the beginning of their service through a boot camp called Tironut, where they get the basic training to their service, but the rest of the service of the Orpi soldiers does not include "guns and stuff".
They don't teach us at school how to motivate weapons! Some schools run a program called "Gadna", where 16 year-old students (who are, by far, only at the beginning of their classification to the army) get to undergo a camp similar to the Tironut, only the Gadna is apperantly much more fun and resembles a school trip.

I think that any question that comes out of curiosity is ok.

of course we dont learn how to use a gun as kids! what do you take us for?! we have to get a lisence for a gun just like in most normal countries.
we dont have a choice here. you have to serve in the army for at least 2 years, and if not the army, then national service- you have to serve the country.
if there is war, he may have to go and fight, probably actually, but remember that we have one of the very best armies in the world...so there will be much better people at heir jobs than this guy going to fight.
there is also the chance that he sits behing a desk in the army service.though not likely.
u sound like ur stressed...everybody serves here. it isnt something bad. i think it is amazing.everyone takes a part in keeping eachother alive.

Israeli citizens go to war at age 18, men stay for 3 years, women stay for 2. They DO NOt teach children how to work guns.

Do you agree that the response should be "Itbah al Yahud"?
