i'm fairly new here and have heard people speak of a troll. someone just mentioned that a troll gave them points? can someone explain please. thanks in advance

Usually someone who replies to a message board who is just there to cause trouble or to tick everyone off. They usually get their jollies trying to upset people.

A troll is a coward who will not come out from behind the computer screen and act like a member of civilized society. Instead they prefer to spread vitriolic comments and ask flippant questions, thus showing themselves to be immature and in need of adult supervision.
It is interesting and sad to see how some persons will behave when hiding behind the anonymity of the computer. As an "old guy" I have occasionally acted irresponsibly in my youth, so I can relate, but only up to a point. I suspect that these persons would be truly ashamed if they knew their parents, husband, wife, children, etc., learned of some of the things they write herein. If their loved ones have departed this earth they may even be looking down on these persons from above and weeping at their actions. Clearly they do their loved ones a disservice and dishonor them with such behavior.

You must be new to the internet. A troll is someone thats "trolling for trouble". Meaning, they post things they knew are going to upset people and cause a fight.

its SUPPOSED to mean someone who lurks, like the troll under the bridge, and stalks and preys on women online, but it gets misused here as being someone who gives rude answers or has a sense of humor that people didnt get.
