That's what a respondent to my last question suggested.

the definition of rudimentary is:

of a primitive kind ;

very imperfectly developed or represented only by a vestige

My interpretation:
love happens through experience, anyone with faith and anyone who lacks it can have a real understanding of loving one another regardless, maybe their faith or lackof will be attributed to how they sustain that love

This is what that person said...
"Seriously, I think it would be extremely difficult for an atheist to have anything beyond a rudimentary understand of love. God is the creator and author of all true love. I'm certain that they could understand lust and physical attraction but love would indeed be beyond an atheist. "

Hmmm... well if that is the case then I guess I am on crack because I am pretty sure the unconditional love I have for my 4 cats and 3 dogs is definitely nothing to do with lust or physical love... To say that someone who does not believe in god/s of any kind cannot comprehend love is ridiculous to say the least.. Id have to say that people who think all animals were put here for man to command has no understanding of love at all at least not in the true sense, not to mention the fact that in reality how can love for a god be true when it involves a punishment if you DONT love him?? No the way I see it an atheist or agnostic would be more likely to understand the true nature of love.. love that knows no boundaries or conditions... I tell ya the things people come up with, gimme a break... that guy doesnt know what hes talkin about. Real and true love comes from inside you not from some intangible being in the sky... I believe in no god/s but I believe in love, and with all my heart I love my family, human, canine and feline.... they are the embodiment of my love. Trust me I understand love better than that ignorant schmuck ever will and I need no god/s to do so.

Anyone can experience and come to know what love is. Love is something that is built into every human. Some choose not to accept it like others. For example, the way a child loves it's mother or father. We all know love exists and have experienced it in one way or another. Love is not inferior, just so long as it is love. Lust can be mistaken for love which will give the illusion of inferior love.

Love is one of the most powerful tools God uses. We all know love exists but can you prove it? In the same manner, we ALL know God exists, just some people wanna see before they believe. Love existed in people's lives before their heads are filled with view-points. God loves everyone, but at the same time He is a Just God.

So an atheist's love is love because they know what love is since before they were born. To this very day God loves us all and we experience that love every day. By not accepting God's love, a person will not be able to grow in that love. There is an empty spot in the heart of every human which was strategically placed there by God for God's love.

It is interesting that you found my answer offensive but allow me to point out a few things.

As an atheist how do you explain love? The common answer to this is that love is nothing more than a chemical reaction that occurs in the brain. Therefore to an atheist love is no more miraculous than the fizzing of an Alka Selzer tablet. It’s just chemistry. Big whoop. I would not trade God’s beautiful unconditional love for a glass of fizzy water.

Where do you think Bach received his inspiration for all his music? It was God. But perhaps you prefer the atheistic sounds of Slayer.

Since God is the ultimate author of love those who reject God also reject his love. As an atheist you have not and cannot experience God’s unconditional love. This is what true love is. To ask an atheist about love is like asking a person who was born blind what the color green is. You have no basis for understanding what love truly is.

Love is an instinct. There is no need for a specific understanding of it based on a religious or other world view. It's a natural thing that happens within all human beings.

Atheists if there are any, can only experience human emotional love, not heavenly love from the Lord God Almighty.

love is the same and and the concept of love is far better than any religion. this sounds corny but if there were no religions and somehow love became law I think that people would be far better off

Yes and yes.

Godly loves saves the soul which is what truly matters. Worldly love is only given and taken at will or convenience and serves no higher purpose.

What good is anything in this life if it just leads to eternal punishment?
