As in, if someone clings to whoever they see as helpful to them, and when that person leaves them, they feel helpless, and have severe negative effects such as losing sleep?
Also, how could it be cured?

the name for this type of problem would be called a dependent personality. the person only feels good, about themselves when they are dependent on another person. this type of person has not learned that fulfillment has to come from with in, not only from outside. seeing a psychologist, or trained therapist for therapy can help this type of person. below is a link.. the prognosis can be good, but can take a while to feel better about yourself . hope this helps your question

I agree.
But they could also be signs of Borderline Personality Disorder. People diagnosed with BPD fear abandonment and suffer negative side effects when it happens to them.

But, there are many other symptoms associated with BPD, so you would have to have a trained doctor correctly diagnosis you.

those sound like two different but related issues. the first is an attachment disorder....people with it are clingy and often attach themselves to the wrong people.
the second is separation anxiety.
both can be worked on in therapy with someone who understands the disorders.
