How about two red roses with the stems intertwined...where they intertwine put a small red heart as if it were the ribbon that holds them together...Make sure to use color ie: red/green with black outline...
The two roses are your children and the heart is you that holds them together....If you decided on your lower back (I just had one there) you could lay the roses sideways with the heart ribbon kind of hanging down a little. Any good tattoo artist can design one for you. Take care and good luck. Other answerer is correct, they are addictive, I waited till I was almost forty and now have 3...the last ( and it is my last)one I waited a few years to get and it is on my lower back...GOOD LUCK. I think when they are done right they are beautiful....I have a saying "I am not defaming Gods temple, I am adding stained glass windows to my soul." (I was raised Catholic) Have fun and enjoy those kids, mine are grown and for the time being my "grandchildren" have four paws and drink out of toilets. teeeee Alda
Note: Please don't worry how much "thinner" you need to be for a back tatt...my theory, a little more canvas is just a little more room for a little more art.

I'm so sick of people that are against tat's coming into this forum..anyways..if this is your first tat, maybe you should try somewhere else, since your ankle is soo close to the bone, it might be very painful..but if that's what you want..and my friend got her sons name with his birthday underneath in cursive on her arm. Maybe you should got one on your shoulder blade, those tat's always look really nice, Im in love with the cursive tattoo's that look really wispy and what-not..Look over some tat designs sites as well as the tattoo parlor..or maybe even ask the artist for some suggestions..good luck!

Maybe their birthdates in a nice font style wrapped around your ankle or stacked on top of each other. Use color, not just black or blue.

You need to know that someday you will be old and any tattoo you get will become gnarly and ugly and look like a permanent bruise. In other words you should think about that first and not about what the tattoo will look like after you get it.

Don't believe me? Just visit the nearest homeless shelter and marvel at all their 'beautiful' tattoos.

It's just peer pressure that motivates you to want to get one now.

Don't follow the mindless crowd!

They are too easy to get and too hard and painful to remove.

Don't get a tattoo. You will get over the 'urge' to do this.

Believe me you won't regret this later in life!

Now, chin up!

go for the ankle sweety. you will be able to see it.

p.s. its very addicting so you will eventually get one on the back anyways..but start with the ankle...
