My extended warranty insurer claims this is corrosion (on a vehicle with 60,000 miles). The dealer disagrees. If you have knowledge of this problem, especially in Passats, please comment. I am particularly interested in the prevalence of this problem and whether it is considered a corrosion problem or a design defect problem.

More details: The VW service rep described this is "cancer of the car". Apparently coolant from the coolant reservoir makes its way from the reservoir into the wiring system between the wire and its insulation. Then it keeps migrating through the wiring until it gets to a point where the car quits.

"coolant migration" is too vague a term. add a little more description of your particular problem.
I can only guess that with "coolant migration" and corrosion being used in the same question that this in a form of electrolysis.
