I moved to Alabama in November of 2006. I had currently lived in Kansas. Everywhere I looked in Kansas I could find a job. I worked at a daycare that paid me 12 dollars an hour and I worked 40 hours a week. I've been searching for jobs since September of 2006 and I can't find any to save my life. I help clean houses 3 days a week but that is not a real job to me. I want to be doing something. I am living with my oldest brother and he keeps telling me that I don't need to help pay the bills but I feel guilty not doing so and I want to work... I like earning money and doing stuff. HELP!!!!!!

I've applied EVERYWHERE.... and yes that is a bit of an exaggeration but I've applied at the city, at daycares, at urban forestry places, at newspapers, at the mall, at a gas station, at hotels, at insurance compainies, as a sales distrubitor, and all that stuff. I write poetry and get paid well for that but it is still being at home in front of a computer all day long. I want to get out of the house and get dirty and feel like I am helping others out and doing something to better myself and to take steps for my ultimate dream.

Moving out of area and now competing with the 'locals' is the problem. Redoing your resume to only show the names of the companies, dates worked, job titles, duties/qualifications. Upon interview you then add actual company addresses & contact phone numbers. Giving only local personal references also helps at the start. This is all just to get you into an interview. Once there you can tell them how much you love the area and plan to make it your home = Adds to their confidence to hire you. Cleaning jobs are a good way to keep you in your own money and 'out there' but unless you plan to make it your full time job/business I would keep putting out those resumes. Repeat visits may garner you some Human Resource worker support. Like water on a duck's back - just let rejection slide off; keep a positive attitude and a smile on your face and you will eventually get hired!
Hang in there.

Cleaning houses IS a real job, and I know at least a few people who have made really well in this vocation.

Besides that....maybe you should spend less time on Yahoo Answers and more time looking for a job online.

12x40 = $480 / week.
if you clean 8 homes a week at $60/home, that's your $480

There used to be a time in this country when any job was a good job. Cleaning homes for a living is a real job.

Get off your *** and start working.

What skills do you have? More skills=better pay. My husband found his last two jobs here:
