For the last two years I've been homeschooling, I have the records and my work is in folders, but we never have filed the homeschool affidavit.

I'm going to have transcripts from private schools that account for all the credits I need, and I could provide report cards, but is the lack of filing the affidavit going to be a problem when I go to college?

I want to go to a community college first. Also, I plan to graduate from a real school. I read that you have to file the Affidavit between October 1st and 15th, is that true, or can you file it at any time?

Go to college in a state outside of CA. TX and OK dont require any notice for homeschooling. You can get into a great school there, without the worry of not having the Affidavit, because they won't require it for admissions.

I highly doubt that a college will ask you for an affidavit they will be more interested in the quaility of your work and your portfolio.

However if it really worries you just file it -- and yes it can only be filed Oct 1st - 15th. Gotta love CA - their laws make no sense seeing as how school actually starts in August and people who move into the state just have to wait. But whatever! We have filed for two years now and never heard a thing.

If you have a private tutor or you are enrolled in an "umbrella school" that keeps records for you and you are considered to be a "distance" student, then you are fine.
If you are not in those two categories, then that affidavit is a legal requirement for you, and you would be wise to get that taken care of. It may not present a problem, but you do not want that to be the one thing that gets in the way of you getting in to the school you want.
I personally do not know, but I can imagine that Ca. colleges and universities would require to see that if you are homeschooled in their state?
