There is a thing called diamond eye that you can get at the local pet store and it works really good on removing the stains around the eyes!! You just put some on a cotten ball and wipe the eye gentlly!! And yes you can bath her just not to much you do not want to dry out the skin!!

Hi, I'm a Bichon Owner and I keep my lil Milou bathed about once a month. However, I bath him myself. The groomer's just way to expensive. Besides, when I'm finished with him, he looks like a million bucks and he smells like a dream!! (Smile). If I knew how to put his picture up here, I would. THAT'S JUST HOW GREAT HE LOOKS!!

I use "Fresh 'n Clean" Oatmeal 'N Bakinsoda Shampoo and "Fresh 'n Clean" Oatmeal 'n Baking soda Conditioner.

Also, for the tear stains, I use a product called "California Natural Skin & Coat Supplement". It's for dogs and cats of all ages. I used to have a problem with my dog getting tear stains all the time and after I boutght this product, his stains were gone within 3 days and have NEVER been back since.

The product contains Linoleic & Omega 3 fatty acids, B-Vitamins, Garlic & Zinc. Plus Antioxidant Vitamins E, C & A. All you do is sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon in his food twice a day and they love the taste. It's much cheaper than all that Angel's products and it really really works!! I PROMISE!!

Good Luck! Now, do you have any pointers on potty training?? Cuz man, do I have a time trying to get him to go in the same spot all the time. (Smile).

One question at a time!

First off, regarding the bathing, your dog should be fully bathed no more than once a month in order to avoid drying her skin and coat which can cause itchiness and flakiness. This is not to say that if she becomes completely covered in mud you cannot bathe her--just be cautious to avoid doing it too often. Once a month is the typical standard.

For in between bath times, there are great Pet Wipe or Puppy Wipe products that are just like baby wipes that you can use to remove any excess dirt from her fur.

When it comes to tear stains, quite honestly the best thing you can do is use a warm wash cloth and work the stains out as best as possible. The tear-stain solutions you can buy at most pet stores don't really do much that a warm cloth can't do. You can keep the fur trimmed around the eyes and face as well to help them looking their best.

To avoid tear stains altogether, check the ingredients of the food you are using and make sure there are no dyes or additives, particularly the Red Dye #40. Avoid foods such as beets and even carrots when possible, as these can also produce tear stains.

When it comes to puppy pads...why? As a trainer, I encourage my students to stay away from the puppy pads whenever possible. You are teaching your dog that it is appropriate to potty in the house instead of outside. Crate training is the easiest way to teach your dog that the only acceptable place to use the bathroom is outdoors.

Hope this helps. Feel free to email me for more information regarding the potty training, it takes up too much space here. :)

You can give them baths in between if they get REALLY dirty, just like you would a regular puppy. Probably in the kitchen sink for one that young and definitely w/puppy shampoo.

As far as the tear stains, they make pads or wipes that you can use to clean those. My favorites are made by John Paul, which is the maker of Paul Mitchell for humans.

There is also a home remedy where you can take equal parts peroxide and milk of magnesia, combine them, and add just enough corn starch to make a paste. Apply that to the stains at bedtime and wipe it off in the morning.

Bichons are great dogs. Good luck!

You shouldn't bathe her too much because her skin will dry out. Ask your groomer about how many times. As for puppy training, my dogs are paper and outdoor trained (they won't go outside if it's raining). Pick a room (like a hall or laundry room or bathroom) , put down her puppy pads all over it, put up a baby gate. When your not palying with her put her in there. Or, right after eating and sleeping take her to the room w/ the pads and if she goes say GOOD GIRL. It will take some time (depending on the puppy) but it worked for mine. Good Luck.

awwwwwwwwww... lucky!!!! ok... my bichone Frise died 2 weeks ago and this is what i did when she was a puppy. When her fur started to flatten out or discolor, id give her a bath. That has kept her healthy for 18 years!!!

i disagree with the above poster, twice a week is way too much and would probably dry out her skin. i think once a week should be the MOST you bathe a dog, and even that is excessive. shes little and will probably not be getting all that dirty. they make dog wipes for inbetween baths, baby wipes are safe for dogs and work the same (probably cheaper too). as for the puppy pads. when she looks like she is about to go, scoop her up and stick her on the pad. the praise her when she goes on it.

If you must bathe a "Puppy" use the powdered form soap, for your puppy. I would wait till your pup is 1/2 year old before I bathe him in water.

No more than twice a week. Continuous bathing dries out a dog's skin.
