I also have a small dog that I crate trained and I anticipated that as he got older he would need more room when he was in his crate. They make crates that you can section off during different phases of growth and training. The compartment that the dog is in during the first stages of training should be big enough for the dog to comfortably stand, sit, and lie down in. As your dog gets older and is trained you can open up the full crate so that your dog has a little play room, especially if the dog will be in the crate while you are at work or school. I have a border collie terrier mix, but I keep him in a 30 inch crate so that he has enough room to walk a step or two, just a little extra wiggle room. But when he was still being house trained we sectioned the crate to about 2/3 that size. I crate with dividers is a great option to carry your dog through the various life stages and saves you from having to buy multiple crates which are expensive. Hope this help!

The crate should only be big enough for the dog to turn
around in. The reason for this is because they don't do
their business where they sleep. If the crate is to big than
the dog will go inside. The purpose of the crate is to
teach them to hold it. Also it's thier bed.

It should be big enough for it to comfortably stand and turn around in. Believe it or not, dogs learn to like the crate as a sanctuary as long as you don't leave them in it all the time.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMS4n

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

just big enough that he can turn around in. you dont want it too big that they have room to make a "mess" on one end and sleep at the other.

you should also only keep them in the crate for 1 hour for every month old they are. So for a 6 month old dog, they can stay in there up to 6 hours.

big enough for them to stand up, turn around and lie down in - no bigger because they'll have the urge to eliminate in it, no smaller because it's uncomfortable and would not only cause them pain during the day, but also make it harder for you to get the dog to go into the crate.

Crates are high quality, in basic terms in basic terms confirm you do no longer go away him in for too long at one time!! To get him used to the crate, initiate feeding him closer and closer till you feed him in the crate. shop feeding him in there. additionally, attempt crating him for short classes to get him used to being in there which comprise once you circulate to the food market. once you place him in the crate supply him a handle. With the nutrition and treats he will associate the crate with nutrition which, of direction he likes. :) confirm you place a blanket, a bone and or toys in the crate to maintain him busy and make him sense at domicile and comforted. stable good fortune!!

Just big enough for the dog to get into, lay down, and turn around: there shouldn't be any empty space where the dog could go to the bathroom and not have to lay in it.
