It would not have been very practical to put separate divisions and assault formation on the same ships. The mixed chain of command would've added to the already confused melee.

No they had separate objectives.
The Americans landed on the most westerly beaches code named Utah and Omaha.
The British and Canadians landed on the beaches code named Sword, Juno and Gold

Nope. The Americans attacked on Omaha and Utah Beach; the Brits had Sword and Gold beaches; and the Canadians had Juno Beach. So they were effectively segregated.

I don't believe all the forces were on the same ships in the channel. Of course all the ships were in the channel. American forces landed at Omaha and Utah beaches. British forces I believe landed at Gold and Sword Beaches and the Canadiens, I believe landed at Juno Beach. Certainly they would have each been in separate landing craft in the beach assaults.

No, though the boats were very similar:

The Initial US Forces used the LCVP (Higgins Boat) which was 36 ft in length and could carry 36 troops:

The Brits and Canadians used the LCA (Landing Craft Assault) which was41 ft in length and could also carry 36 troops:

There were over 20,000 Higgins boats build, and just over 2000 LCA built.

I don't believe so. The UK forces landed on "Sword", "Gold" and "Juno" beaches, while the US forces landed on "Utah" and "Omaha" beaches. They may have used the same type of boats, but the forces weren't mixed.
