i am able too do this as i live in my mothers house at the moment and am buying house next door. I got my mortgage by providing a letter from my bank saying ive always been registered at my mothers address. What can i do? also i dont have a credit card only debit card. I went through with all this via my financial advisor but now solicitor has also requested this too me. I can obviously provide bank statements off my deposit etc but dont have any bills registered in my name. I hope this dont cause anymore problems as ive just got my offer letter from the bank saying they agree too the loan.

This happened with my husband when we were trying to buy a place. Cos he'd always lived with me beforehand, he didn't have any bills in his name.

The solicitor just got him to bring bank statements in his name, and I had to sign a letter saying he'd been living with me. So I expect you'll need to get your mum to do the same.

Believe it or not, they're doing it because they have to check for money laundering ... so that's why they need credit card statements, etc, as this shows your address has been verified. Are you on the voter's roll? If you are, worth telling them to look that up.

trying to prove who you are is a bit of a pain isnt it. I have had thi so many times. utility companies and banks want you to go green and have paperless billing, but you need a bit of paper to prove where you live.

RBS gave me a credit card (now remember i can owe them money on that) but wont give me a bank account (where i can only take out what i put in) without umpteen forms of id.

you need to prove residency. Bank statements are good, any bills (mobile phone) are also good. you should be on the electroal role at the address.

I've just bought a house they only needed proof of ID and proof of address I took my bank statement and driving licence to the solicitors and that was sufficient.
Don't worry there loads of people who have the same problem so they can't expect you to have a utility bill

To comply with government anti money laundering regulations you need to supply proof of address. A full UK driving licence, credit card or bank statement should suffice.

Explain the situation to them. they will have dealt with first time buyers before.

I think you can take anything that has your name and address on it ie..A doctors note, anything that is official.
