I'm homeschooled, first off, and I have to pass a test this year to fulfil the state requirements, so I can go on to 12th grade, but I'm so nervous!!! The last time I took one of these tests was 3 years ago. How can I ensure that I will pass and make it to the 12th?

If I dont pass this test, I will fail the grade and have to do 11th grade over. Please tell me what things I need to be familiar with in order to pass the California test?

Well, the thing is, you only have to be above the 30th percentile to keep homeschooling, so you don't really have to worry.
Do a practice test first (you can get them just about anywhere) and see how you do. You'll probably mostly need to keep your math sharp; most people can fake it through the English.
The biggest thing to remember is to relax.
Is it a home test or do you have to go to your local high school and take the test?
If it's a home test (which is unlikely for your grade, I think), then take the night before to straighten out your desk, sharpen a couple pencils, and set everything precisely how you like it. Get to bed early, have a decent breakfast, keep a bottle of water handy (capped so you don't accidentally spill on to your test) and do the test in segments you can manage. When you start to feel like your brain is getting 'fuzzy', stop for a few minutes and let your mind blank out, stare at a wall, but don't let your mind wander. Then do the next segment, et cetera.
If it's at a school, do the same thing but without straightening your desk. Being well-rested and having a decent breakfast inside you (I'd recommend oatmeal -the real deal, not the instant Quaker sugary crap- with milk, cinnamon and sliced strawberries) will help you tremendously.

You might read the law. California doesn't require testing for homeschoolers unless you go through a charter school or private program. In that case, if you've followed the program, you should be fine.
Also, you might ask what the actually results will need to be, in many states to pass the test you have to get higher than 60%. Pathetically low and seeing your writing and grammer I'm thinking you're smarter than that ;-) In other states, you don't have to pass the test by percentage, you just have to score higher than a certain percentage of other children.
SO finding those answers might help you feel better, and knowing that the tests are really pretty easy ought to help as well!

The most important thing we have found to make sure our homeschooled child is getting all he needs is buying prepackaged curriculum for each individual grade. I am sure at the end of each year that he has aquired at least the same required lessons as children in public school, hopefully more. We also go through a Christian homeschool and they let us know what is required each year. If you don't go through an affiliated school, then you should be able to contact your local district school superintendent and they will be able to help you better understand what specific skills you need. We always revert back to our old books. We use them for review and research. You can also go to the Alpha Omega web site and they have placement tests you can order to see where you stand as far as other students and at what level you currently are in. They also show a chart of what you should be learning in each grade. Study hard and do your best. It is late in the year so I'm afraid you might not be able to cram a large amount of information between now and then. So, go with what you know. If, unfortunately, you don't pass, you will have to study harder for next year. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Actually I say ask the people who give the test if there's a test from last year or the year before that you can have to practice and make sure you can answer well. Some places do this, and it would give you a clue of where you are with all of it. Also ask them if there's anything you're missing in your studies.
Other than that, I say have confidence, home schooled people tend to know their stuff as I recall. And your grammar is good heh.
Oh and eat well and rest well before the test!
Best of luck.

20th Century World History, arithmetics (which I sucked at) English grammar, reading comprehension, essay writing, science, geography and current events. From what I've read, home schooled students do very well on these tests. You can also buy the study guide for the GED, as I'm sure all subjects are covered. Hope you do great!

Ummm.... first of all who says you HAVE to take the test? Is this something your parents require of you? Because the State certainly isn't going to come looking for you- as stated by another poster you aren't required to take any tests in CA just keep attendance & attend approx 180 days a year.
If it is something your parents require that's different but otherwise I wouldn't even bother.

Ask your teacher to find out the state requirements so they can adjust their learning plan if necessary. It is quite possible that they already have done this. Also they could try you with some trial test experiences which may lessen your stress level when taking the real one. Good luck.

Do you know the exact name of the test? If so, plug it in to Yahoo or Google. I am sure there are study guides available.

Frist Breath! this sounds stupid but it helps. When you are feeling the pressure than breath and tell your self to relax. Just study and get a good nights sleep.
