Are donkeys really dumb?

They just act like every other animal I have seen and i keep hearing a simily which says "as dumb as a donkey".

No. Donkeys are actually pretty smart. They are clever at opening gates with their lips and are generall very friendly.

am not sure,but i believe the adage comes from the fact they can be used to carry lots of loads, even like books without them being able to read or benefitting from the knowledge of what they are carrying round!

They can not speak. Yes they are dumb.
