okay, so I've been wanting to get a keyboard for some time now and I was wondering which brand I should get. Also, how much do keyboards usually cost?

thanks x3

There are a few things to narrow down first. Are you more interested in traditional and realistic sounds (piano, organ, strings) or wilder sounds you might hear in techno and hip-hop? What is your budget? Will you be using your computer to record or do you want the keyboard to have onboard recording?

Generally speaking synthesizers with built-in speakers are targeted at the consumer market. Mid-level to pro models are often more specialized and try to do certain things very well as opposed to trying to do everything in one. They are usually sturdier as well.

That said start by researching Roland, Yamaha and Korg workstations. If price is a concern definitely look on eBay. You can get really great gear for cheap and many musicians baby their gear so it's ok if it's used and not "gigged", meaning taken in and out and banged around playing in bars and clubs.

Some of my favorite resources are the Home Recording BSS (http://homerecording.com/bbs/) and Harmony Central (http://www.harmony-central.com/Synth/). Or you can read reviews by people who actually own on most store sites now like Musician's Friend and Zzounds.
