the toyota echo was available in the states from late-1997 to mid-2006. by late-august 2006, the toyota yaris (named after the european model and called the vitz in asia) replaced the echo as a way of toyota "moving forward" in subcompact design. however, some countries, like south america still produce the older echo's design as the "getz" as a cheaper alternate for lower budget people at somewhere under $5,000 USD. still, all countries including south america already went to yaris/vitz platform already.
