We joined the EEC, forerunner to the EC and now the European Union in 1973. Probably on January 1st as that's when these things usually take effect, but I can't be bothered to search online for the definative date. I'll let someone else cut-and-paste the relevant article from wikipedia.

We joined the common market in 1973 but lots of treaties since have been signed without the express consent of the people. We have never officially joined the EEC just been steam rollered into it.

as far as i can recall we never did we jioned the common market in ted heaths day and that was the bigest fiddle under the sun then
now we have been taken over by germans that we repelled in the last war
so all those died for what???
