First, that story is OVER a year old.

Second, Judge Cashman faced intense debate following his sentencing and was forced by the public to change his sentencing.

This led to an incredible outpouring of support to get the law changed. The reason that Cashman gave his original sentence was because sex offender counseling for this crime would not be eligible while the jerk was in prison. Sex counseling was only eligible upon his release.

This last was changed a few months later and the original sentence was changed by Cashman as soon as the bill went into effect to change that stupid law.

I'm getting tired of those who think that VT is alone in this. Look at the six year old down in Georgia who was kidnapped and killed by a convicted sex offender this week.

The laws in many states are ineffective. I say castration for all rapists - first offense too.

You know, I'm from Vermont and I'd like to field this question. I really think too many of you get your information from Fox or some other conservative forum without actually having all the facts. Do you know that rape is one of the most under reported crimes and that under 10% of rape cases in court end with the perpetrator found 'not guilty' for lack of evidence? How much do you actually know about rape statistics and rape conviction?
The ENTIRE judicial system (that's in your state too and everybody else's) needs to change the way they approach rape/domestic violence. Look up statistics from your own state or any state and you'll see what I'm talking about. Other than that, don't make blanket statements when the entire country has problems dealing with this crime in a just manner.

OMG(s) what a horrible story! it didn't say anything about the mom letting 2 men sleep in her bed, but either way, i don't know how anyone can justify 60 days in jail for raping a 7 yr old for years. this judge is probably just trying to set the standard for when he gets caught doing the same thing!

That story made my flesh crawl. We can't stop pedophiles from having sex with children. That stupid judge just allowed other girls to be raped in the future. That is so horrible. Did the judge really believe that rehabilitation will help that sick freak? It won't. Of course he's going to play along with it and say yes, I won't do it anymore, but naturally he is! The judge is retarded. I feel so sorry for the little girl who had endure sex abuse and the pervert got only 60 days in prison.
I feel sick about letting pedophiles go free. This world is crazy.

Some don't believe in evil, so don't believe that justice should be harsh. They think the person needs "help" or something.... it makes me sick.

Child sex abuse is one of the most grievous forms of evil, I think. If someone rapes a child, repeatedly, in my opinion, what they need is to be "helped" into the electric chair.
