Hate to ask this but why do so many people state that most wars are religious in nature in either their questions or answers? Is our education system so bad or are they just interpeting the facts the wrong way?

The only real religious war that I can think of, outside of the Bible is the short lived "People's Crusade" which was an unintentional by product of the intended Crusade. Well, that an perhaps a few of the Ji'hads, but not sure on those.

Two things:
1. This is not just about current wars.
2. Belief in one or more gods on your side is not a cause of war. A religious cause of war would be "they don't believe, hence we'll kill them all"

Religion is often a good pretext to stir people up for war. However, if you scratch the surface, it is usually a political or economic reason that drives it.

Most wars weren't for wholly religious reasons, but a large number of them were in part motivated by religion.

There were plenty of religious wars in the Middle Ages as Christianity spread through Europe and pagans fought against it. There were religious wars when Islam spread into India. There were religious wars between Protestants and Catholics, and Sunnis and Shi'ites. Religion might not always be the main reason, but it is often pretty high up the list.

Education and lack of interest in going beyond the "party line" junk taught by the media and some schools. People don't realize that politics generally use religion for their own agenda in most wars... it's an inconvenient fact.

The Thirty Years War was religious too. But you're right about one thing...there is always a political component to these religious wars.

So the Greek armies didn't think the Gods were in favor of them taking Asia?
The Romans didn't think the Gods were in favor of taking over the known world?
Iran didn't think Iraq was an unholy country when they invaded?
Egypt didn't attack Israel because they didn't recognize it as a Jewish State?
Hitler didn't try to cleanse Europe of the Jewish people?
Bin Laden didn't attack TWTC twice because they view Americans as Christians?
George Bush's war on terror isn't our God is better than your God?
Ireland hasn't been in a civil war for 1000+ years over religion?
Spain didn't have a civil war over religion?

I can't count how many wars England and France had over religion either.

Bro........remember Abel & Cain.

Their story is told in the Hebrew Bible at Genesis 4 and in the Qur'an at 5:27-32

In both versions( Cain commits the first murder by killing his brother after God rejects his sacrifice but accepts Abel's. Genesis puts some emphasis on the occupations of the brothers; Abel tends flocks while Cain is a farmer.

This seed was multiplied with hate-murder-war.

When atheists throw rocks at religion, theyre hoping to hit them all with the same rock. The bottom line is that the 20th century was one of the most bloody and it had NOTHING to do with religion. They were all battles of competing ideologies and the never ending struggle against tyranny.

omg, there are no jihads at the moment! those people are using religion to justify blowing themselves up and other people too, which is wrong in Islam! there were jihads in history, but those were because the religion was being attacked.
