Purina is a very good brand of dog food. Pedigree is not made by Purina - Purina is now a part of Nestle. You can see all the brands and all the kinds offered at purina.com .. You can also print off some valuable coupons there. Purina is a good brand of pet food that I have been using for years! Half of your comments are not correct - I would go with whatever you want to purchase for your dog. Just make sure you dont get any of that recalled stuff!

Pedigree is a grocery brand and is generally considered a lower tier than Purina products.
Purina has three tiers as well. Their premium tier is Pro Plan, followed by Beneful and Purina One, and then followed by Dog or Puppy Chow (which are both grocery brands). The higher tier you go, the better the quality of food.
While my dog was on Pro Plan because of his allergies, it contains corn and has a higher fat percentage than some of the other good premium brand foods out there.
I personally recommend Nutro Ultra, Natural Choice, Nature's Recipe (which is what my dog is currently on for his allergies), Royal Canin, and Authority Harvest Baked. Each of these are considered all natural with no additives, by-products, or whole grain corn which is undigestable and considered a filler.
Do some research before picking a food for your dog. Take a look at the ingredients list: the contents are listed in order of greatest amount contained to least amount contained. You want the first item on the ingredients list to be some type of meat or meat-meal (like lamb meal or chicken meal). Stay away from any food that has whole grain corn or any type of meat by-product meal. Check and see if there are a lot of artificial ingredients, dyes, or additives as well. These can cause allergic reactions in some dogs as well as tear stains, tooth stains, and other unpleasantries.
Hope this helped.

Pedigree is like junk food to them. Purina, I don't know much about, but someone at Petco told me NOT to buy pedigree. It's hard to get your dog off it once you've started. Buy anything with natural products in it. Some of the major brands have dead animals mixed into them. I buy Organix and it doesn't have any chemicals like some of the other brands do. Try that. The more natural, the healthier!

Neither is a good food. Both are full of cheap fillers...corn, wheat, soy, by products, etc. Dogs are carnivores...meat eaters not grain eaters. They need a good quality meat based food (at least the first 2-3 ingredients need to be meat). It takes up to 3 times more of the low quality grain based foods for a dog to get the proper nutrition then it does of a good quality meat based food.
Some good food choices are:
Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Innova, Solid Gold, Timberwolf, California Natural, Wellness, Percise, Premium Edge, Blue Buffalo just to name a few.
******Pedigree is NOT made by Purina!!!! Also Ralston Purina no longer owns Purina pet foods..it is now owned by Nestle foods******

My vet recommended Pedigree over the other Purina dog foods and I have to say my dog's health and coats showed that it was better, too! My dog has allergy issues and we're trying meat-free brands now so I no longer use Pedigree only for that reason.

BOTH Bad Dog Food''s.... these dog foods listed below are bad and contain some very horrible things!!!!
Alpo, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Mighty Dog, Purina One, purina pro plan.
9 Lives, Amore, Gravy Train, Kibbles-n-Bits, Nature's Recipe
Hill's Science Diet
Eukanuba, Iams
Kal Kan, Mealtime, Pedigree, Sheba, Waltham's
The mixture of chicken feet, dead animals, euthanized dogs and cats, lungs, ligaments, beaks, teeth, intestines, and more. This bad dog food is cleaned up with the all-encompassing label of “meat-and-bone meal” and “by-products” on the outside of the bag. When all of this putrid material comes to the rendering plant, it's put in a huge vat and shredded. It’s then cooked at 220 to 270 degrees for 20 to 60 minutes. After it cools, the grease is skimmed off the top. This is "animal fat." The rest is pressed and dried. This is what’s called "meat and bone meal” and “by-products” – otherwise known as bad dog food... would you eat this stuff??
and its not over yet!! BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) - known to cause liver and kidney dysfunction
BHT (butylated hydroxytolulene) - known to cause liver and kidney dysfunction
Ethoxyquin - suspected of causing cancer
Propylene glycol - causes the destruction of red blood cells,Coloring agents
Drying agents
Flavoring agents
Lubricants
Texturizers
now the dog food is ready to be made and shipped to all those grocery stores. wouldnt it be better buying a good dog food instead of promoting these bad foods!!

well a good do food should have sources of protein for the first 3 ingredients to make a good food source for dogs. According to the ingredient lists of the food the chicken soup for the dog lovers soul is the best but personally i prefer Innova, Evo, Canadine, and California Natural. These are really good dog foods and because they are so nutrient rich you only need to feed your dog tiny amounts. The chicken soup looks like it would last long because of the high nutrition as for cost i have no idea it really varies from store to store hope i helped!

We just answered this question less than a week ago. Neither is good. Get some decent food like Solid Gold, Merrick, Nature's Variety Prairie Brand, Innova, or Wellness.

They are about the same. Both are crappy foods. I wouldn't feed my dog either of them.
Instaed, spend a few extra dollars and get something like Merrick, Wellness, Solid Gold, Evo, Blue Buffalo, Canidae, or Natural Balance (ONLY natural Balance!). All these brands use human grade ingredients and are free from fillers. Personally, I use Natural Balance and people constantly stop me to ask me what I feed because my dog's coat is so shiny, she's so healthy, and she doesn't smell.
