Egg donation???

Question

What do you think about women donating their eggs, in order to give another woman a chance to have children?

I have been seriously thinking about it, and I just wanted to know some thoughts or suggestions....maybe hear from someone that has actually done it.

If you are really serious about it, you might want to do some research as to who you donate to. There are so many places to donate offering tons of cash without regard to your care and well being. It is a lengthy process and while you might be doing it out of the good of your heart chances are you aren't going to meet the recipient of your egg, get a thank you card or really receive any follow up care. Donating eggs can also put you at high risk of being infertile should you ever consider having your own child. Another thing you might have to face is that someday this egg will become a child, teen, grown up and come looking to find out her past- whether it be for person or medical reasons. It can end up taking a horrible emotional toll on you even if your intentions are pure. And then again, if they are for the money because I can see how they could be (I've heard of some places offering up to $50,000) is it really worth the medical risk if you're 100% healthy? What if there is some side effect? Does the place you picked cover after procedure problems? Will your insurance cover it?

There are so many things to think about before making such a big decision. I'm just trying to give you an idea of what you should think about before hand. I'm not trying to be negative, only honest and open about what you could be getting yourself into. You would never let some hum drum doctor with a poor reputation operate on you; you should make sure the same is true for someone doing an evasive procedure on your body.

Will you worry about a part of you being out there somewhere? Will you wonder if there's a "stranger" out there that looks like you? Acts like you? If you will, then don't. If you don't give a flip, then go for it.
