It depends on what you want to do for a living? Where you want to be stationed? And what you plan on doing with your military education when you get out. For example...I worked in Belgium as an E-4 in the Air Force as a security specialist and worked side by side with an Army E-4. We both worked our 8 hour shift. When I was finished, I went home. He went to the Army unit that he was in, and worked another 8 hours as a dorm guard. Same pay, same benefits. When I was assigned to South Korea, I knew that I'd be in the 51st Security Police Squadron for a year. Knew that I'd be in Law Enforcement, and knew that I'd be working an 8 hour shift, with the remainder of the day to myself. An Army person that I befriended on the plane, didn't know what he'd be doing or where he'd be doing it. In the Army, you are in a pool of personnel and assigned where needed, and can float from one job to another. If you want an education, then the Air Force, Navy or Coast Guard. If you want combat the Marines or the Army. If you want to be floating for 6 months to a year at a time, the Navy. If you want to attain rank quickly, the Army or Marines. Just remember, there aren't too many civilian positions open when you get out of the Army or Marines, for a tank driver.

I am in the Navy, and have been for 11 years. I love it. I wouldn't change my branch of service for anything. People are not going to be able to give you honest opinions, because they know nothing about you. The best answer is to go to every branch of service, and see which one has the best to offer. NEVER EVER let someone tell you not to do something because you are female. I know some of the BEST females that served in the Corps, Army, and Airforce.
As far as joining the Airforce to become a Pilot. I would like for you to do some research and let me know which branch of service actually has more pilots, and aircraft. You might be surprised what you find. Don't let the word AIR fool you. Oh yeah, and women aren't allowed on submarines, yet again, an igonorant answer.
Follow your heart. Do what you feel is right. But, never sign a contract until you have done all of your research. If you have any questions regarding the Navy let me know.

You need to talk to recruiters from all branches and make the decision based upon what you feel is best. Don't listen to the high pressure sales pitch.
If you want to go active, you can look at the Army, Marine Corps, Navy or Air Force...that will involve you packing up your life and relocating to a new area and getting a fresh start in just about everything.
If you wish to go reserve, you need to look to see what units are in your area and what their missions are. The advantage to reserve is you get to go back and resume your prior life after you finish training. The other downside to this, of course, is if you are mobilized, you have to give that life up yet again, but probably for a longer period of time.
If you want to 'see the world' you need to look to examine what each branch has around the world...for example:
Germany - Army or Air Force
Italy - Navy or Army
Japan - Army or Marine Corps (I heard the Marines are leaving Japan?)
Korea - Army
Iraq - Army or Marine Corps
I went to Germany during my active duty time. Awesome.
My main advice...shop around. Talk to ALL the recruiters and get the best deal for yourself.

what's extra important than the dep. you're in is what you do in each and every branch. traditionally, the order from maximum secure to maximum threatening is: a million. Air stress 2. Coast look after 3. military 4. military 5. Marines yet, a strive against Controller or Pararecueman (the two Air stress), as an occasion, could be in extra effective possibility than a Water Technician Marine, using fact they have distinctive interest descriptions.

I hear the air force treats its people better, has easier basic, and better housing. I'm married to the army, and from what i can tell, theres not too much discrimination against women. Definately not marines unless you're prepared to face a lot of people who are very gung ho and dont want women in the marines. Navy might not be bad, but i personally think they suck. Air force actually has shorter deployments than the army as well. I believe the navy does too. Its your choice though. Don't let other peoples attitudes affect what you choose to do with your life. Good luck to you.

Im Army, and I wouldnt let my daughter join, I would say Air Force for women, schools are great, Air Force chow is even better,, or Navy Didnt like the chow much when i was with tose guys but they have good schools too, and my firm belief, only men should join the Corps, no disrespect meant towards Wms, but im a single dad that has a daughter, and I just couldnt handle anyone yelling at my baby

Girls don't join the service, Women do. Better go with the Army or Air Force. The Marines are only looking for a few good MEN. The Guard wouldn't be bad either.

unfortunately women kind of get a bad name in most branches i think. i work near army, navy, and marine and trust me they all have something to say about women. personally i used to think along the same lines as most of them, but i have grown up and i realize some women are just as good if not better sometimes than men. what to join is your decision, you'll have to make it and live with it. i'm navy so i really know the navy side of things, but if you keep your head up, work hard, and don't fall in with the stupid crowd you'll be fine.

I agree with RaiderKing. In the Air Force, a female would have the best quality of life and better treatment than the Army and USMC. The reputation of "women don't pull their weight," muttered many a times from the mouths of trees and grunts, isn't solely for shits and giggles.
