EXACTLY!! what do those people have to say about the fact that people who are getting cancer treatment actually sometimes have to get small tattoo markers on their body? wouldn't a doctor be opposed to giving someone a tattoo if it caused cancer? especially if they are already being treated for cancer.
it's just dumb. maybe these people actually do believe that tattoos do cause cancer. whatever.

Tattoos do not cause cancer (or, as the previous poster states, poison the blood). Multiple references are available for each of these; simply googling "cancer" and "tattoos" gives you more links than one could possibly follow up. My suspicion is that it's similar to any fear - ascribe the worst possible risks to it to explain why it's bad. This doesn't imply those stating such want tattoos, but the "tough guy's get tattoos" stereotype is prevalent, as well as the reverse - "wimps don't get ink". So, to explain away the fear of tattoos without making themselves look like cowards, a "reason" is invented/found.
In most (all?) states you can't give blood after getting a tattoo for 1 year, mostly due to old stereotypes of dirty & grungy shops. That is the time period under which such things like HIV and Hepatitis would show themselves were you to contract them from such a bad shop. It's hard to track down whether a given tattoo has come from a good shop or bad, so health types err on the side of caution.
At least here in Santa Cruz, if not all of California, there is certification shops can (have to?) get with respect to cleanliness & safety. If I'm at risk at the shop I go to, then I'm also at risk at my dentist and my doctor. The steps they take are similar. The artists at Staircase use the same kind of gloves my dentist does (nitril, I think), and similar disinfectants to what my doctor uses.

I have 5 tattoos and I never ever heard such thing about a tattoo giving you cancer. Tattoos actually poison your blood for up to a year, and you cant donate blood within that time period but other than that, you can get diseases such like HIV if someone gives you a tattoo with a dirty or infected needle. But who ever said that must be freacken crazy.

It's like the people that say you can get blood poisoning. My question to them is if the ink doesn't go any further then 2-3 layers of skin and there are 7 layers of skin before you get to veins then how in the world are you going to get blood poisoning?
It also reminds me of the people that put pot in the same category as crack. Misinformed and too lazy to do their own research.

I'm not sure if I should take that honey as honest niceness or condescending. But after being that chair over 20 times I think I know what I am looking for, and talking about. If you get a paper cut, it bleeds, but you won't get blood poisoning from it. It didn't pierce a vein or artery therefore not contaminating the blood stream.

Actually we will be the last people to get skin cancer thats for damn sure as I avoid the sun like you cant imagine..like a vampire..lol...if the person is thinking the ink causes cancer then he or she is an idiot. It's freaking FDA approved for crying out loud!!
Must calm down...breathe...lol........
oh and bwt to the person down below who cant understand how you could get blood poison from the needle..honey..its obviously going deep enough to bleed right? if a dirty needle gets mixed into your blood stream that can cause a problem...
also understand that your tattoo artist will take the needle out of a brand new sealed package. if he doesnt...RUN!!!!!

i have two tattoos, and i plan to get another
the whole cancer thing doesn't scare me. alot of things can give u cancer. mercury in canned fish, smoking, drinking, sun bathing, heck, the air we breathe contains a lot of carcingens so even breathing can cause cancer!
so next time i go in to get another tattoo, i'll dedicate it to all the idiots who believe tattoo are dangerous (^_^).

Haha....wouldn't it be great if there was some great medical discovery that tattoos prevent or treat cancer. Then you could tell all the haters (and the troll) to kiss your @ss.
The cancer thing is probably something their uptight parents told them or something to scare them off.

Hmm...no, I've heard of that before. I know you can get AIDS if your go to place that shares or doesn't disinfect their needles. Thats why I talked to people about going to the best places and finding out about this one parlor that actually gives you the needle to keep, you can bring it back or they will just give you another one.Its the only place I go because I know its safe.
