Do you mean potty training or general obedience training?

I have always been a promoter and practitioner of motivational training, ie: positive reinforcement. Reward your dog through praise or treats for doing a desired action (such as pottying outside, sitting instead of jumping, not barking at something distracting, etc). If your dog does something unacceptable, such as jumping, calmly correct him (in this case, turn your back and ignore him until he stops) and then praise him once he's doing the correct action.

It's good to know that you do NOT have to use a choke chain or pinch collar to train a dog to do your commands. Focus on the good instead of the bad and make sure that you're rewarding the correct behavior. For example, if your dog is barking and you pet him to soothe him, you may be inadvertantly rewarding him for barking. Your dog will associate barking with getting affection and will probably continue to bark. Key phrase to remember with training: The behavior that is rewarded will increase!

Another good tip would be to make sure you're always consistent. Have everyone in the household agree on which words to use for certain commands so that the dog does not get confused and make sure everyone understands the rules and follows them. If the dog is not allowed on the couch for you, make sure nobody in the house allows him on the couch.

Hope these hints help, feel free to email me for more information.

Labs are easy to train.. I have one myself and he LOVES to please me.. I would be surprised if your dog was hard to train.. but you can use a treat and make him do the trick and then give him the treat and lots of praise to let him know that your proud of him.. another key to help the dog learn faster is don't yell at it for doing wrong. just go over the trick till he does it right.. and you always end the training lesson on a possitive note...training dogs takes a WHOLE LOT of patience..I learned that the hard way!! Mine is very cowardly.. if you yell at him he runs off and you can't work with him till like the next day.. whatever the case.. I hope that helped you!!

these dogs are fairly easy to train
firstly treats are not good all the time
when you first start use treats but then start to reward your dog with praise if he doesnt do the right thing say no and put your hands to your side
consitancy is key
work with him every single day or he is likey to forget what has been taught
good luck
