No, it is NOT OK, unless you don't care that you will NEVER see that money again!

There are a few ways to handle this situation. I would say that the best way to go about it is to tell her that if she can get to the convention then you will give her the money to cover her gas costs when she gets there. I would guess that if she doesn't have the money herself that she could borrow some from a friend or relative. You could also purchase a prepaid gas card ( checking of course which gas stations she would be stopping at along the way). If you want to send her money then you could also buy a pre paid visa. If you were to take her out for dinner & a movie it would cost more than $40.00. People go out on first dates all the time and it doesn't lead to a second. If you send her the money and she doesn't show then you'll know that she isn't trustworthy and wasn't worth your time to begin with.

Do not loan cash to ANYBODY you only know online that is just plain nuts! You will never see it again. There are sooooo many scams out there He can find somebody there or he can go without. Don't fall into the trap! Even if you loan money to someone you know, get it in writing that it is a loan and they will pay you back in instalments or in full by a date you can agree on and have it signed by them with as much details as possible. Even if it's your best friend or family members because they are the ones that end up in court the most. As for online friends NO WAY!

Sure it is OK but assume that you will not get paid back. Nigeria is home to some of the largest online fraud operations. In truth, you probably have little if any correct information on this person.

No way, Jose. This guy is ONLY after your money and any other kind of personal information he can gather from you. He wants your identity as well. Report him to Yahoo! and run far, far away as rapidly as possible.
Never, ever loan money to someone you don't know. And, think twice before loaning any to someone you do know.
