Whey protein is for gaining muscle mass. It usually has between 10 and 20 grams of protein in a shake, and it is for people who are trying to bulk up. If losing weight is your goal, then whey protein is not for you, although it won't make you heavy.

I use it as well. I usually take it after running (at least 30-45 minutes) and after work out (1 hour). Depends on its composition, but as others say it is to gain muscles, to let them grow. Well, I take it also and most of all because it provides regeneration after workout, for greater build up one can take creatin and other supplements. Whey protein is very innocent if you ask me and I speak from my own experiences. After work out you need to feed the muscles, so how will you do that? Whey is like first aid, you take it with 2-3 cups of milk or water and it fills you up for some time, it offers first aid. Since i am taking it again (3 weeks), I see that also my nutrition got fixed almost to perfection, I drink more, and so fill up the stomach, the rest of the day, when I feel hunger, I fill my stomach with protein food and low calories carbohydrates - vegetables, not fruits! Fruits are okay, but contain sugar, so if it is about losing weight, eat vegetables. Whey can also be instead of a meal once per day. There's so much info on the web, or go to the gym and ask those who work out, those who sell it, fitness instructors, ask more people to get an overview and it will help you to decide. Good luck.

I personally believe that whey protein does not have health benefits. See here: http://www.notmilk.com

If you can, look up Super Pro 96 on the Internet, but I believe your health food stores should carry it. It is a NON GMO soy, meaning it is not genetically modified soy, its organic so that you get the benefit of nutritional protein to help support lean muscle mass but not the weight gain problems with whey.

See http://www.glycodiet.com/mannalive and download the articles and advice on that site because, if you are eating low glycemic and staying away from artificial sweeteners known to cause neurological problems see here: http://www.dorway.com

Then, you can lose even more weight successfully and have a strong immune system for better recovery after work outs.

I really like your question, its a great one.
