Can someone please explain why the Shites and Sunnis do not get along?

Aren't they both Islamic? Or do they have different views on Islam? I heard that the Shites believe that Mohammed is the only prophet, but the Sunnis also believe his direct decendents are prophets. Is this the only difference?

We need to separate religion from hate. Religious people do not kill each other. Some governments want you to think his so the can promote their agenda. What you see in Iraq is political violent groups who want to control. The are denounced by their religious leaders. The KKK members in the south may attend baptist churchs but they are not religious people.
