You have a wrong idea of what's the idea of President Calderon, or mexican people.
I live in Mexico, and this problem is so dificult for you as it is for us in my country, since we have lost people of our own family or friends that have gone to look a better way of life in your country.
What Calderon is trying to say, is that there are other ways to deal with immigration, and we have to deal with it togheter, cause as much as you and us are sovereign countries, the economy of us are tied togheter in many ways.
Mexico is the natural economical ally as well as Canada. The need for labor is what makes our people to go to the USA, not only the poverty that there is in my country.
So what he is trying to say, and what your president Bush is aware of, is that there is a win and win way to relate betwen our countries, and it's not with hate, killing or walls.
Calderon and mexican people is not asking for help, or for american citizen or government to come and solve our problems, wich are a lot, but to move on better comercial relations, to make investments, and yes, to create ways to satisfy the necesity of work of the people, and the need of labor of the USA companies.
Look how diferent is your insigth of this, than from us in Mexico, that article says Calderon give Bush a cold welcome, while some Calderon detractors in Mexico says he kiss his ***!!!

President Felipe Calderón warned that the only way to stem illegal migration and ensure regional security was to raise the standard of living in Mexico “I am sure there is nothing better for the security and prosperity of our region than the prosperity of Mexico,” he said.
I agree so do it! Yes let Mexico raise its Standard of living ,they are not a poor nation. Only the common people of Mexico are poor. The wealthy live in incredible luxury while the masses go hungry. Make Mexico a more livable country for all its people. But let Mexico do it not the USA.

On immigration, the Mexican leader raised objections, as he has in the past, to the construction of a 700-mile wall along parts of the border, saying that building roads in Mexico would be more useful. Building roads to what allow for driving over the border when you come to sneak across the border. Felipe Calderón admires those statements so much why isn't he reaching out to all the other nations for donations to help secure his country.

It's pathetic that the Mexican president is suggesting that we need to raise the standard of living in his country. Perhaps if he spent less time whining and more time doing something it'd have more results.

Is to give his country money, build their economy, nevermind our own, and take the burden of caring for his poor people off of his country.
Fancy his holding that opinion.
