Basically, she let her in the garden, and fudge scrambled off through the hedge, to adjoining gardens, which lead straight off into countryside......we live in the lake district, so a lot of open fields, woods etc......BUT...there is a very busy road, at the top of the lane, she might have wandered on to. My hubby has taken our Border collie, for a romp round the countryside, to see if they can spot her.....there are rabbits, squirrels, etc, so we think she might just be exploring...BUT.....what are the chances, she is totally lost now? She is only 4 months old?

I am guessing that the kitten will not have gone very far - they tire easily and get scared. Also, wide open spaces intimidate very young cats and scardy adult cats. They willot want to "explore" in such places. Search under hedges, and bushes and likely bolting or hiding places within the immediate neghborhood. If that does not bring results, set humane traps baited with smelly cat food. You can borrow one from a humane shelter. There is no way that the kitten will walk accross a wide open space unless she is trying to get to a safe place to hide on the other side. But she'll do that onlt if something has threatened her enough to want to cross it. If all else fails today, wait until tomorrow - the kitten may show up hungry later at night - when all is quiet. To help her find her way back, put her kitty litter by the porch. She'll smell it and it will act like a beacon.

Normal kitty behavior at 4 months old.
She is at the prime age where if in the wild, momma cat would be taking her to teach her to hunt. Cats have been known to "run away" for days, weeks and even months and still return home safely. With an abundance of area and loads of animal smells to explore...kitty may be gone for awhile.

Contact your local veterinary surgeries and notify them she is missing, post notes through the neighbouring houses asking them to check garden sheds, outhouses etc. Notify the local council to watch out for dead kitty's (enviromental health)..

The likelyhood is that she'll return safe and well. My cat went missing for 24hours and I was petrified but he came back after spending the night at a neighbours house.

Ads in the local vet, papershop etc may help. was the cat microchipped? my neighbour got her 4month old puppy back because she was chipped. Sorry to hear of your distress, as a cat owner I know how you must feel.

Please keep calling her and rattling her plate ,she might not have gone far and hear you.On the other hand she may have wandered quite far and is lost so put up posters and ask around your area someone might have taken her in.Good luck I hope she comes back safe.

Suggest you put ad in local shops to see if anyone has found her or her body. Your best hope is she has been taken home and cared for by someone.

I found ours in a wood half a mile away. I kept calling as I walked and suddenly saw her sitting in front of me. I had to approach carefully and talking gently because she was confused and frightened.
