My pinky and ring finger on my left hand is numb. So is the palm of my hand, but only the part that is below the numb fingers. It's been numb for about 20 minutes. Any idea what might be causing this? My wrist feels a little bit numb too.

I didn't do anything to it.

This condition sounds like inflammation of the ulnar nerve, which occurs from compression of the nerve or some other type of nerve damage (which may just be temporary). Compression can occur from holding your wrist in a bent position for an extended period of time - such as when using the handlebars on a bike, or sometimes while you are sleeping with your wrist bent. If you are not doing any activity to cause this, you might try out a wrist brace at night, to prevent you from bending your wrist. The braces are sold at most pharmacies and stores like Walmart. If the brace doesn't work, there is some other cause which you might need a doctor to figure out.

When I saw your question I had to laugh. My left hand is going numb too, but I have arthritis. tendonitis, and nerve problems in both wrists. I think its from overuse in my case...typing. It feels weird and it hurts too. I have no idea why yours is going numb but have you looked into carpel tunnel? good luck to you If it gets worse call the doc.

I have the same thing going on with me. It could be clogged arteries, or it could be nerve damage. Does anything in your elbow hurt, like the "funny bone" ? I fell and hit my elbow, so I'm hoping mine is nerve damage. Mine started about a month ago. It sometimes gets worse at night, and tingles more. It's scary to think it could have something to do with blocked arteries, cause it could be life-threatening. I have yet to go to the doctor, cause I do not have health insurance. If you do, go and get it checked out. Good luck to you!

i am by no means telling you to ignore it, but give it time before you go to the doctor. or if it spreads you should get it looked at. i have my thumb go numb a lot and i think it is just a pinched nerve. i only get it once in a while, usually if i fall asleep on my hand.

If it contunues after you have tried moving it around and wiggling your fingers and your wrist, then I would contact your doctor.
