I have two finches, one male and the other male of course. They are about a year old. About three weeks ago they started to lay eggs. At the end of the first week there were 7 eggs, which surprised me alot. They have been sitting on the eggs for two weeks but since the beginning of this week they didn't sit on them at all. And since the hatching period is 15 days I thought that the eggs were infertile and removed the darkest coloured eggs. I left the newer 4 eggs in the nest. But they aren't sitting on them at all. What is wrong. Did I do the right thing? Should I remove all the eggs or should I just let them stay there? Thank you very much for your help already.

They are TOO YOUNG to know exactly what to do. It usually takes 2-3 failed clutches to incubate properly. Then they may still abandon the chicks.

Remove the nest. Let your hen rest and you do more research and learn how to handfeed.

Try again next year. For a few months BEFORE you put the nest back in, make sure they are on a good breeding diet and have a home lined up for any and all chicks that may hatch.

I would have removed all the eggs, I assume you are sure it is a pair, I would also throw another female in to the cage. Finches are very much society birds and prefer to be in small colonies, If you have two females, both will sit on the others eggs.
