For those who don't know, I was having trouble deciding what ring to buy for when I propose. BTW, I bought a ring with her birthstone in the middle with a couple small diamonds flanking the birthstone. It didn't cost much, so she might not be mad at me. Anyway, is it too old-fashioned to get down on one knee? As you might be able to tell, my girlfriend is a modern woman. Do modern women still appreciate the one-knee proposal? I don't know if I want to cook her dinner or take her out to a nice restaurant. Either way, I'm planning on slipping the ring into her beverage glass. I wouldn't do that if she drinks a dark drink like a cola or red wine. I don't want to take the chance of her choking on it or chipping a tooth or anything like that by putting it somewhere she wouldn't be able to see it in time. Should I just keep it with me and take it out when I'm ready to ask her to marry me? Thanks in advance.

Cook her dinner (more intmate), keep the ring in your pocket and take it out when you're ready to propose. When you do propose, get down on one knee. I'm a modern woman, and i would love if a man did that when he proposed. I'm modern, but I'm also a romantic. Oh, I looked at your other question. Sounds like the ring you got is a good choice. You should appreciate that she wanted a cheap ring. A lot of women I know would scoff at a ring that didn't have at least a 1 carat diamond or a few diamonds that equal 1 carat.

No! It's insanely romantic. Do not do it at home, do it in a restaurant where she can be the center of attention. An engagement is one of the biggest days of a girl's life, so she will love the memory of all those people going "aweee" or what not. The drink thing.. I don't know... I wouldn't personally prefer this manner. If you are going for old fashioned just tell her you have something to ask her... pause for a long time and perhaps to add to the 'moment' just stay silent and start eating again, then, a few minutes later, clear your throat, get down on one knee and ask her to be your wife forever. This will assumingly elicit "AWWWE" from the neighboring tables, and perhaps a waiter will pick up on it and bring you a romantic dessert.
Ok, jsut my two cents.
GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND!

Having been married twice now, I have to say that even though I consider myself a "modern" woman, I preferred the down-on-one-knee proposal. Don't put the ring into her drink... take her out for a fabulous dinner and propose with dessert. You might be too nervous to wait, though. Make sure you book a romantic, private table so the whole restaurant doesn't erupt in applause. (People love romance!)

I am a big "feminist" and modern women and I would want my boyfriend to get down on one knee when and if he proposes, I dont know any girl who wouldnt like the old-fashion way, I wouldnt put it inher drink thats too risky. But taking her out to romantic dinner, or cooking yourself is both good ideas. So anyway go the old-fashion route and good luck! :D

It is never too old fashioned to get down on one knee.. Keep the ring with you until you are ready to ask her and then present it to her while you ask. A friend did break a tooth when it was put in her glass.... puts a damper on the evening.

I'm taking it she wanted a small, cheaper ring. I hope so , because if not...your in for it! LOL. I wouldn;t do the drink, because she then has to dig it out and well ...yuck. How about putting it in her napkin or a roll (just barely have the stones sticking out..where as soon as she picks it up she will see it. Then just kinda act like you dont know anything. And eventually give in and propose!

Get on one knee and ask with the box in your hand. The ring in the wine glass is trite. A restaurant would be nice...but then everyone will want to see the ring...and it sounds very inexpensive. It might embarrass her to show it to strangers.

i think the one knee thing is really sweet! i'm not so sure about the drink thing tho... maybe you could have roses delivered while your at dinner with the ring attatched to them somehow. then when she see's it get down on one knee and ask. i dont know, just an idea. good luck with whatever you do!

Slipping it in her drink to me would be cheesy....Just an honest proposal is best no need for getting down on one knee BUT this is just my opinion if your GF is into all the overly romantic stuff then by all means doit.
