my boyfriend is in his late thirties and started smoking cigarettes when he was sixteen and is so addicted he wont stop. he has tried to quit but with no luck. i try to tell him to quit for our baby daughter and always tells me he will. recently i noticed he is coughing alot, and has had trouble breathing once and complained about one of his lungs hurting. he just says hes okay. he refuses to seek any kind of help.i think maybe he feels its to late so why quit im scared, frustrated and mad. im watching him slowly die and cant do a darn thing about it

he's only going to quit when HE wants too, unfortunatly. You can keep on him about it but that will only make him want to do it more. Do tell him you want him to be around to see his daughter get married. Maybe buy him the patch. If he knows the patch is in the house then maybe he might actually look into it.
Good luck!

That is hard! Unfortunately, your boyfriend is the one who has to decide he actually wants help.

I do have an idea. If you have a picture of him when you first met, and a recent one, show the pics to him side by side so he can see what's going on with him.

Good luck.

you have to tell the doctor about it.. if you dont then this could mean even bad news. he may have cancer but it could have just started. if you take him to the hospital he may be cured but if he lets it carry on then he may gradually die. remember you both have a child if he dosnt do it for you tell him to do it for you child. you should consult your doctor alone if he wont listen, if you love him do it. gud luk xxx

He is an adult. He can quit when he wants to. Don't let his ignorance of not going to the doctor upset you. It is funny when people say they can't quit, many of my family members quit years ago.

If he really won't stop then you should leave him. You can't keep your baby daughter there inless you want to watch her slowly die to.
